The Newsroom is set to return some time this summer. Harden has recurred on Royal Pains, Damages and Law & Order: SVU, for which she'll reprise her role as FBI Agent Dana Lewis in the Feb. Harden won a Tony award for her performance. The role marks a reunion for Harden and Newsroom star Jeff Daniels, who shared the stage in the 2009 Broadway play God of Carnage.
DeWitt's completed scenes will be reshot with Harden. In her place, Harden steps into the recurring role of Rebecca Halliday, a litigator who defends News Night's network in a wrongful termination lawsuit. HBO said DeWitt's early departure was because of scheduling conflicts. Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden is heading to The Newsroom to replace Rosemarie DeWitt, Entertainment Weekly reports.ĭeWitt left the HBO drama last week after shooting a handful of episodes.
